FAQs
I have questions about the postgraduate education program in hematology. Who should I contact?
If you have questions about the postgraduate education program, e.g. about the duration or recognition of postgraduate education, you can submit an enquiry to the relevant Title Commission (TK) via the SIWF online portal. Enquiries are usually answered by drawing up a postgraduate education plan. The postgraduate education plan specifies which postgraduate education has already been recognized and which postgraduate education you still need in order to apply for the specialist title in hematology. There is a fee for this request (see SIWF fee schedule).
I have questions about the catalogue of learning objectives in hematology (Appendix 1 of the postgraduate education program). Who should I contact?
If you have any questions about the catalogue of learning objectives, please contact the SSH office. They will forward your enquiry to the relevant person in the SSH Commission for Postgraduate and Continuous Education (KWFB).
Which Swiss clinics are authorised to provide postgraduate education in hematology?
All recognised clinics (category A, B, C, D1, D2 and D3 postgraduate education centers in hematology) can be found on the SIWF online portal.
I would like to have a period of postgraduate education abroad recognised. What do I need to do?
Before starting your position abroad, we recommend that you submit a request to the Title Commission (TK) via the SIWF online portal. The Title Commission will decide whether and to what extent the postgraduate education period abroad can be recognised based on the documents you submit.
I would like to have my research work credited towards my postgraduate education in hematology. What do I need to do?
We recommend that you submit a request to the Title Commission (TK) via the SIWF online portal before starting your research position (in the UK or abroad). The Title Commission will decide whether and to what extent your research period can be recognized based on the documents you submit.
Which communication courses are recognised by the SSH for specialist training?
A list of recognised courses can be found here. If you would like to have a course recognised, please contact the SSH office, which will forward your request to the SSH Commission for Postgraduate and Continuous Education (KWFB).
I want to carry out a workplace-based assessment (AbA). Where can I find the necessary information and documents?
All information on how to carry out an AbA and the documents required for documentation can be found here.
Do I have to keep an e-logbook?
All doctors must use the e-logbook. Title applications and location determinations can only be submitted via the e-logbook.
The e-logbook is an online database that you use to continuously document your postgraduate education. This includes:
- The services provided and learning progress made during postgraduate education (interventions, operations, treatments, competencies, skills)
- The SIWF certificates completed jointly by the postgraduate trainer and you
- Other information relevant to your postgraduate education (courses, scientific work, examinations, expert opinions).
Once you have completed the e-logbook, you can submit your application for the title of specialist in hematology directly at the end of your postgraduate education.
You can find the login details and further information about the e-logbook on the SIWF online portal.
Are workplace-based assessments part of the e-logbook?
No. Workplace-based assessments are recorded and evaluated using separate forms. The e-logbook certificate only needs to state whether and when the evaluation took place.
Is the annual evaluation interview part of the e-logbook?
Yes. The annual evaluation interview is included in the SIWF certificate.
I have a question about the specialist exam. Who should I contact?
Please address any questions about the specialist exam to the SSH office (info@sgh-ssh.ch, tel. +41 (0)43 266 99 12). They will forward your question to the SSH exam committee.
I would like to apply for a specialist title in hematology. Who should I contact?
Apply for the specialist title
Once you have fulfilled all the requirements of your postgraduate education program, you can apply for the title of specialist in hematology. The application should be sent directly to the SIWF. It will be reviewed by the SIWF and then forwarded to the Title Commission for Hematology.
Submit your application via SIWF Online Portal to the relevant Title Commission (TK).
Request a status assessment
If you would like to know what you still need to apply for the specialist title, you can request a so-called status assessment. The application is also submitted to the SIWF, and the procedure is the same as for the title application. The Title Commission will then provide you with detailed information on the requirements you still need to meet in order to submit your title application. There is a fee for this request (see SIWF fee schedule).
Further information can be found on the SIWF online portal.
I have a foreign specialist title in hematology. Can I have my title recognised in Switzerland?
To have a foreign specialist title recognised, you must contact MEBEKO (Medical Professions Commission) at the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH). Further information can be found on the FOPH website.
I run a postgraduate education center for hematology and would like to have my institution recognised as an A, B or C clinic or as a D1, D2 or D3 postgraduate education center. What do I need to do?
The form for the recognition of postgraduate education institutions can be found on the SIWF online portal. Submit your application via SIWF to the relevant Postgraduate Education Institutions Commission (WBSK). As part of the accreditation process, the applicant clinic is usually visited, i.e. representatives of the SIWF and the professional association visit the institution and gain an impression of the postgraduate education provided there. Based on the documents submitted and the report of the visitors, the WBSK decides whether to recognise the clinic as an A, B or C clinic or a D1, D2 or D3 further training institution in hematology.
I disagree with a decision made by the Title Commission (TK) or the Postgraduate Education Institutions Commission (WBSK). Who should I contact?
Legal action may be taken against decisions made by the TK and the WBSK. Please address your appeal to the Appeals Commission for Specialist Titles or the Appeals Commission for Postgraduate Education Institutions of the SIWF.
