Specialist exam 2025 to obtain the title of specialist in hematology

Duration and content of the exam
Passing the specialist exam is a prerequisite for obtaining the title of specialist in hematology (any applicable transitional provisions and exceptions: see Article Specialist examination – what applies? (as of 2020)

The written theoretical exam consists of  an examination with 100 multiple-choice questions in English; duration: 2.5 hours

Admission requirements
The exam is aimed at hematologists in postgraduate education. There are no special conditions for participation in this exam

Registration
Registration opens on 1 February 2025 and must be completed directly and exclusively via the EHA website. This registration does not apply to the oral exam

Duration and content of the exam

The oral specialist exam consists of an practical diagnostic part (30 minutes) and a structured theoretical part (30-45 minutes)

Admission requirements

  • Only those who hold a Swiss or recognised foreign medical degree are admitted to the oral specialist exam
  • It is recommended that the specialist exam be taken at the earliest in the last year of the regulatory postgraduate education
  • Admission to the oral exam requires passing the EHA written exam and proof that at least 70% of the requirements listed in the e-logbook have been met

The exam fee must be paid by 31 August 2025

The following documents must be enclosed with the registration:

  • Completed e-logbook
  • Swiss medical degree or foreign medical degree recognised by MEBEKO
  • Confirmation from the EHA that the written exam has been passed. If this confirmation is not available at the time of registration, it must be submitted as soon as possible

* The exam usually takes place at the end of October/beginning of November. The exact exam dates will be announced at least six months in advance in the Swiss Medical Journal and on this website.
