About the Swiss Society of Hematology

The Swiss Society of Hematology (SSH) is the professional association and specialist society for doctors with a specialist title in hematology or doctors who specialise in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of changes/diseases of the hematopoietic, lymphatic and hemostasiological systems, as well as the interactions between blood and blood vessel walls.

Other main areas of the discipline include hematological laboratory diagnostics, transfusion medicine, cellular therapy including stem cell transplantation, the manufacture of blood products in accordance with the Therapeutic Products Act and the Drug Approval Ordinance, and immunohematology.

The core tasks of the SSH are to regulate and further develop postgraduate and continuous education, promote scientific research in the field of hematology, protect the professional interests of hematologists in Switzerland, and represent the profession in matters of professional policy.

The SSH was founded on 2 May 1947 and is a non-profit organisation that does not pursue any economic goals. Since 1 January 2017, Dominique Froidevaux has been the CEO and Pro Medicus GmbH has been running the SSH head office.
